Brian Pacheco has been in pastoral ministry since 2010. After devoting his first twelve years to worship, youth, and family ministry, Brian planted Flatiron Church in fall of 2022.
Flatiron Church is the newest daughter congregation to be planted out of Rock Point Church. Rock Point is part of Vision Arizona, the regional church planting movement of Converge Southwest. This partnership has revealed a kindred spirit between the two churches – sharing a similar culture and vision for the East Valley. This partnership has already bloomed into an emerging movement, with the hopes of planting many more churches in the years to come.
Brian is a graduate of Covenant Theological Seminary, where he received his Master of Divinity in the spring of 2020. He and his wife, Melinda, have four wonderful kids: Cora, Calvin, Mia, and Ruby.
Brian’s other interests and hobbies include his family, traveling, hiking, hunting, strategic board games, history, and philosophy.
What is your most unusual talent?
I can always find water when golfing.
If you could take a week off from your regular life to immerse yourself in learning something new, what would it be?
It would likely take longer than a week, but I would love to learn how to design and build a multi-stage amplifier. I love varying guitar sounds and am always searching for something different than my Mesa can give me.

I can have a whole conversation only using memes and gifs.
If you could take a week off from your regular life to immerse yourself in learning something new, what would it be?
I would love to go to another country, such as Scotland, and immerse myself in its people, culture, practices, and history. Basically, I would want to do more than sightsee, but it might take longer than a week!
Dave Sutherland was born in North Carolina but lost his southern accent long ago. He also lived in Brazil and Ohio before settling in Arizona. Dave attended U of A for his first two years where he met Denise playing co-ed indoor soccer. He then came to his senses and attended his final two years at ASU graduating with a marketing degree. He accepted Jesus as an adult, and the Lord led him from management to sales to land development to house flipping, and finally, to ministry. He has attended Rock Point since 2005 and began working for Rock Point in 2009 in various roles before becoming Executive Pastor in 2017. Dave is amazed by how God has orchestrated his journey and feels so blessed that he is able to be used for God’s Kingdom.
Dave has been happily married to his wife Denise since 1996. He enjoys spending time with his two young adult children, Brooke and Mason. His nicknames have been Toothpick, Bubba, Huevos Rancheros, Super Dave, Dangerous Dave, and most recently, Shady Dave.
What is your most unusual talent?
Only a few people know that I used to draw portraits and sketch a lot in pencil.
If you could take a week off from your regular life to immerse yourself in learning something new, what would it be?
If I had a week to learn something new, I would learn Spanish, or how to sing, or how to make pasta, or write a novel, or become a marksman … though those would all take more than a week.
Melinda is the wife of Pastor Brian and mom to their 4 kids, Coralie, Calvin, Mia, and Ruby. Until January 2022, she spent her entire life in southern Illinois; a small town life and corn fields will always have a piece of her heart. Before having kids, she worked as a social worker in foster/adoptive care and community mental health. She was working in private practice counseling when she decided to stay home full time after having their second child. As a family she, Brian, and the kids enjoy hiking, reading, exploring new places, and making messes. Brian and Melinda have served in various ministries together the entire time they’ve known each another. Taking the steps to move and plant this church was the result of years of prayer and preparation while God did the work in their hearts that only He could do. Melinda’s passions are people meeting Jesus and loving and serving her family well.
